Self-Defense and the Suspicion Heuristic

In this essay, Professor Richardson and her coauthor explain how non-conscious processes can lead to systematic and predictable errors in judgments of criminality regardless of conscious racial attitudes, and they argue that the law of self-defense should take account of this suspicion heuristic when assessing the reasonableness of a person’s behavior.  To read the paper, click here and then press the “download this paper” button.
