AAP Tip of the Week – Thanksgiving

The upcoming holiday provides a much-needed break at a critical time in the semester. The break can be a good time to catch up on organizing class materials, but be sure to take some time for yourself as well. Make sure to get enough rest and relaxation to give yourself the energy you need to finish your classes and prepare for exams. Communicate with friends and family in advance so that you know what to expect and can plan your study, recreational, and travel time accordingly.

All students who participated in Early Bird Interviewing Week and the Fall OCI Session are invited to visit with Career Services staff about their interviewing experiences at 12:40 on Thursday, December 3, Room 275. Things to share might include OCI Orientation Camp, the bidding process, Pomerantz Center, etc. Lunch will be provided. RSVP in Symplicity.

The Career Services Office is pleased to welcome Mark Goldfarb to our staff! Mark, a graduate of George Washington University Law School, recently relocated to Iowa City from Washington, D.C. where he was an Associate with Dechert LLP. He is available for career and judicial clerkship advising with all students and is officed in room 294, inside the Administrative Suite. We are very excited to have Mark join us and encourage everyone to stop in and introduce yourself.

Twin Cities Diversity in Practice 1L Summer Rotation Clerkship

Diversity in Practice is a non-profit member association of 22 leading law firms and 14 corporate legal departments who provide first-year law students with a summer clerkhip that combines a traditional law firm clerkship with a “rotation” of 3-4 weeks working in an in-house corporate law department. Participating corporations include 3M, Best Buy, Cargill, Target, General Mills and others. Sample projects include assembling facts in employment law cases, researching state employment discrimination laws, revising corporate policies pertaining to vendor contracts, and developing trademark protection policies. To apply, a resume, transcript and a cover letter should be e-mailed to any of the law firms listed in the information at http://www.law.uiowa.edu/documents/cso_twincities_diversity.pdf. Deadline for applying is January 15.

PROJECT HOLIDAY NOW THROUGH DEC. 4

The Citizen Lawyer Program is sponsoring Project Holiday at the Law School. Tags for childrens gifts, food baskets, and gift cards for elderly and shut-ins are located in the lobby and faculty lounge. Directions are posted with the tags. We will collect gifts until December 4 and take them to the Salvation Army or donors can mail or deliver their own gifts. For more information, or to volunteer to sort or distribute Project Holiday gifts write law-clp@uiowa.edu.

Delaware Minority Job Fair – January 23

The Delaware State Bar Association invites first-year law students to the 2010 Delaware Minority Job Fair to be held at the Widener University School of Law, Wilmington, DE on Saturday, January 23. This is an opportunity to interview with large, medium, and small Delaware law firms, Delaware public sector and public interest employers, and to explore the practice of law in Delaware. This job fair is by invitation only. Students need to complete the application form and submit it along with a résumé and transcripts to the address listed in the information at http://www.law.uiowa.edu/documents/cso_delaware_minority_job_fair.pdf by Thursday, December 10.
