OCI Debriefing Meeting – Thursday, Dec. 3

All students who participated in Early Bird Interviewing Week and the Fall OCI Session are invited to visit with Career Services staff about their interviewing experiences at 12:40 on Thursday, December 3, Room 275. Things to share might include OCI Orientation Camp, the bidding process, Pomerantz Center, etc. Lunch will be provided. RSVP in Symplicity.

Career Services Office Welcomes Mark Goldfarb

The Career Services Office is pleased to welcome Mark Goldfarb to our staff!  Mark, a graduate of George Washington University Law School, recently relocated to Iowa City from Washington, D.C. where he was an Associate with Dechert LLP.  He is available for career and judicial clerkship advising with all students and is officed in room 294, inside the Administrative Suite.  We are very excited to have Mark join us and encourage everyone to stop in and introduce yourself.

Delaware Minority Job Fair – January 23

The Delaware State Bar Association invites first-year law students to the 2010 Delaware Minority Job Fair to be held at the Widener University School of Law, Wilmington, DE on Saturday, January 23. This is an opportunity to interview with large, medium, and small Delaware law firms, Delaware public sector and public interest employers, and to explore the practice of  law in Delaware. This job fair is by invitation only.  Students need to complete the application form and submit it along with a résumé and transcripts to the address listed in the information at http://www.law.uiowa.edu/documents/cso_delaware_minority_job_fair.pdf by Thursday, December 10.

Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia Internship Program

The BABSEA Legal Studies Inernship Program offers 12-week opportunities to make a real contribution working in Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, and Vietnam implementing a wide variety of community development and capacity-building, child protection and education, transitional justice and community legal education initiatives. The interns work with the BABSEA International Community Legal Education team as well as local lawyers, legal educators and community organizations. Hispanic National Bar Association Internship Program

The HNBA quarter/semester unpaid  internship beginning January 2010 provides a unique opportunity to work on legal and policy issues,  provide support to the HNBA staff in planning and implementing its programs and events, and  serve as a liaison between the membership and key decision makers in Washington, DC.  The application is available at http://www.hnba.com/mc/page.do?sitePageId=80710. Summer 2010 Janet D. Steiger Fellowship Project

The American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law will offer 2010 summer fellowships to 20 L1 and L2 law students. The fellowships are for a minimum of eight weeks in the consumer protection department of the participating State Attorneys General in states such as Florida,  New York, California, Texas and Kansas. Each selected student receives a $5,000 stipend for the summer and a housing/travel allowance.  Applications will be accepted from November 15 to February 5, 2010.  The application form is available at www.abanet.org/antitrust.

McAndrews, Held & Mallow, Ltd. Fellowship

Each year McAndrews, Held & Mallow, Ltd. offers a $5,000 fellowship and a paid summer clerkship to a qualified first-year law student who has a diverse background, possesses a degree in science or engineering, and is committed to pursuing a career in patent law in Chicago. As a summer associate, the fellow will gain experience in a wide range of intellectual property law and will be eligible to receive an offer to return for a second summer. Section of Litigation Judicial Intern Opportunity Program

The American Bar Association Section of Litigation will begin accepting applications for its Summer 2010 Judicial Intern Opportunity Program on December 1 for first-year law students. The program is a full-time, six-week minimum summer internship program open to all minority and disadvantaged law students.  Participating judges are located in Illinois, Texas, Miami, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.  Students may choose geographic location and law interest on the application.  Interns will receive an award of $1,500. Midwest Public Interest Law Career Conference – February 6

This conference will be held at the Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, on Saturday, Feb. 6 and is open to first, second and third year J.D. students. The conference offers students opportunities to interview with a variety of public interest and government employers for summer law clerk and entry-level attorney positions, to meet with employers during Table Talk, a morning session where employers and students informally share information, and to respond to employer job postings for internships and fellowships on the MPILCC Symplicity.com site throughout the school year (for students registered for the Conference).

Students cannot register directly on the MPILCC Symplicity site. You must register with Cymie Wehr in Career Services and provide the following information via e-mail to cymie-wehr@uiowa.edu by November 30:

  • Last Name
  • First Name
  • E-mail Address
  • Current Class Year (1L, 2L or 3L)
  • Registered Last Year? (yes or no)

Students will be issued logins and passwords on December 14, 2009 and will use Symplicity to upload their resumes and make interview selections.
