Twin Cities Diversity in Practice 1L Summer Rotation Clerkship
Diversity in Practice is a non-profit member association of 22 leading law firms and 14 corporate legal departments who provide first-year law students with a summer clerkhip that combines a traditional law firm clerkship with a “rotation” of 3-4 weeks working in an in-house corporate law department. Participating corporations include 3M, Best Buy, Cargill, Target, General Mills and others. Sample projects include assembling facts in employment law cases, researching state employment discrimination laws, revising corporate policies pertaining to vendor contracts, and developing trademark protection policies. Iowa State Bar Review School (ISBRS) Student Representative
The Iowa State Bar Review School (ISBRS) is looking for a 1L and 2L student representative. ISBRS, working in conjunction with BarBri, administers the bar review and MPRE review in the state of Iowa. Student representatives are responsible for administering the review classes. Benefits include a small stipend and free MPRE and bar review courses. Section of Litigation Judicial Intern Opportunity Program
The American Bar Association Section of Litigation will begin accepting applications for its Summer 2010 Judicial Intern Opportunity Program on December 1 for first-year law students. The program is a full-time, six-week minimum summer internship program open to all minority and disadvantaged law students. Participating judges are located in Illinois, Texas, Miami, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Students may choose geographic location and law interest on the application. Interns will receive an award of $1,500. Additional informatin and application are available at www.abanet.org/litigation/jiop. Application deadline is December 31.
Bar Exam Loans L3’s
For those students interested in borrowing a loan to pay for their costs associated with taking a bar exam (such as the bar exam registration fee, the bar preparatory course and living expenses after graduation and while they study for the bar). http://www.law.uiowa.edu/students/finaid/loans.php The interest rate and the ability to borrow a Bar Exam or a Bar Study Loan will be determined based on the student’s credit scores.
ROOSEVELT ELEMENTARY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Roosevelt Elementary School (located at the corner of Greenwood and West Benton) needs 1L, 2L, and 3L volunteers to read to elementary students during the school day and/or to assist with the after school program from 3:00-5:00pm daily. Law students can make any level of commitment, and interested students should email Roosevelt Elementary Principal Mindy Paulsen at Paulsen.Mindy@iccsd.k12.ia.us. Interested students will be required to fill out paperwork and complete a criminal background check.
