“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” - Margaret Mead
The Citizen Lawyer Program helps students get connected to service opportunities in the community. Pro bono, or “law-related,” volunteer projects place students with nonprofit and other legal service providers or with court projects that make the justice system available to those who can’t afford it. Some students prefer to do community service that is not law-related, either individually or through law student organizations. The staff at the Citizen Lawyer Program is available to help students find projects that meet their interests. In particular, the Iowa Law Volunteer Initiative (ILVI) has created folders of information about local volunteer opportunities across a wide range of interest areas.
Here’s a slide show of some of the opportunities available in our community. If you know of others that might interest and suit law students, please write us at law-clp@uiowa.edu.
