Lawyers & Leaders Spring 2010 Schedule Announced

The spring 2010 line-up of Lawyers & Leaders programs has been announced.  Kicking off the series this semester is a talk by Iowa’s First Lady and Iowa Law alumna Mari Culver, set for Thursday, January 21 at 12:40 p.m.   in room 235.  Other programs, designed to highlight pro bono traditions of the profession, inform about community issues, and develop important lawyer and life skills include:

Who Do You Want To Be As A Lawyer?  Matching Your Personal Ideals with Your Professional Identity  (co sponsored with Career Services).  DATE(S):  Tuesday, Feb. 2, 3:30 – 4:30; Friday, Feb. 26, 12:40 – 1:40 (rooms to be announced). Each session is limited to 12 students.  Email law-clp@uiowa.edu to reserve a seat. 

Family Farm vs. Factory Farm:  What the Citizen Lawyer Should Know.  February 4, 12:40 – 2:00 (Room 245).  Moderator, Prof. Pat Bauer.  Ed Broders (JD, IA); Bill Furlong (JD, IA); Susan Jutz, owner and operator, ZJ Farms CSA.

Fierce Conversations:  A Workshop about Engaging Difference.   February 18, 12:40 – 2:00 (Room 245).  Co-sponsored by the Iowa Student Bar Association, Latino Law Students Association, Native American Law Students Association, Black Law Students Association, Asian American Law Students Association, Law College’s Diversity Committee.

Tour of the Anamosa State Penitentiary, Anamosa, Iowa.  Friday, April 9. Leave law school at 12:45, return to law school by approximately 5 p.m.  Limited to 20 persons, on a first-come, first-serve basis, by writing to law-clp@uiowa.edu no later than April 1.  A transportation fee of $10 will be required of participants. 

  “Corporate America and the Challenges of Diversity” (tentative).  DATE:  March or April –speaker accepted invitation, date to be announced.  Rick (Roderick) Palmore, Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Chief Compliance and Risk Management Officer, General Mills Corporation.
